It has been reported that individuals who engaged in fraud for apartment lottery applications, including falsely claiming to support elderly parents, have been caught by the police. On the 23rd, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Investigation Unit 1 of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that they have forwarded 13 individuals without detention on charges of violating the Housing Act and the Resident Registration Act.
These individuals are accused of submitting false documents to gain eligibility for special supply apartment applications or to receive higher points in general supply apartment applications from August 2024 to April of the previous year in areas such as Paju, Goyang, and Namyangju.
The special supply requirement for supporting elderly parents mandates continuous support for direct ancestors over the age of 65 for more than three years. However, they arranged false address registrations to appear as if they met this requirement to qualify for the applications. Furthermore, it was confirmed that they falsely listed individuals who did not actually reside with them as household members to increase points for general supply applications.
The police initiated the investigation after receiving a request from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, who suspected that some apartment lottery winners in the Gyeonggi Nambu area might have been awarded housing based on false information. Subsequently, they analyzed communication and financial account records of the suspects and their household members, secured related evidence, and notified the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport before sending the individuals to the prosecution.
