The Korean Bar Association says the “judicial crisis” should be resolved through a special investigation.

[Herald Economy=Choi Jeong-ho] The Korean Bar Association has emphasized the necessity of launching a permanent special prosecutor to resolve the current chaotic impeachment situation.

On the 7th, Kim Young-hoon, the president of the Bar Association, held a press conference at the Association’s office and stressed, “The solution to all problems, including the confusion in the investigation process of the martial law situation, is to swiftly launch a permanent special prosecutor.”

Criticism of the government’s refusal of the special prosecutor bill continued. President Kim pointed out, “In a situation where the ruling party also attended the plenary session, the request for a permanent special prosecutor was passed with an overwhelming 209 votes in favor,” and criticized that “from President Yoon Suk-yeol to Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Acting Authority Choi Sang-mok, they are not fulfilling their legal obligations.”

He also mentioned the refusal to cooperate with investigations and the rejection of arrest warrant execution by President Yoon’s side. President Kim stated, “The judicial system is in crisis,” and highlighted that “instead of legally debating issues like reapplication, we should quickly launch a special prosecutor and proceed with investigations step by step to prevent such controversies from arising.”

He remarked, “It seems that the functions of assisting (the President’s Office) are paralyzed, with actions that only criticize and publicly damage the authority of the acting President,” and added, “When the President’s authority is suspended, the personnel in the Secretary’s Office or the Office for Government Policy Coordination should provide assistance functions to Acting Authority Choi Sang-mok.”
