Samcheonpo Sinhyang Port Selected for Fishing Village Revitalization Project [Sacheon News]

Sacheon City announced on the 26th that Samcheonpo Port (Sinhyang Port) has been selected for the “2025 Fishing Village New Vitality Enhancement Project” hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The Fishing Village New Vitality Enhancement Project is a core national project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries aimed at revitalizing the rural fishing community’s economy. It provides support for the economic and living platforms and safety infrastructure of underdeveloped fishing villages to attract new residents. The government plans to invest 3 trillion won by 2027 to support fishing villages in three types: △ Establishing fishing village economic platforms (Type 1) △ Establishing fishing village living platforms (Type 2) △ Improving fishing village safety infrastructure (Type 3).

In this public contest, Sinhyang Port was selected as a site for the fishing village economic platform type (Type 1), securing a total of 30 billion won over five years. Sinhyang Port is an area with a beautiful natural landscape adjacent to Namildae Beach. Through this project, the construction of a marine complex and a local food village will be undertaken, along with the improvement of access roads, waterside decks, and landscape lighting, to promote marine tourism.

Additionally, various projects such as operating start-up support programs and developing regional specialty products will be pursued to boost the fishing village economy. These initiatives are connected with the privately funded “Namildae Resort Reconstruction Project” and the Ministry of Land’s “Regional Vitality Town Development Project” to encourage the settlement of incoming populations and ensure the sustainability of fishing villages. The city plans to complete the project by 2029, starting with the establishment of a basic plan in April.

Mayor Park Dong-sik said, “This project selection is expected to improve the living environment and increase income in fishing villages,” and requested “active interest and cooperation from residents.”
