Professor at Seoul Women’s University embroiled in sexual violence allegations amidst ‘lacquer protest’ of anger

On the morning of the 18th, phrases protesting the inadequate disciplinary action taken by the university against a professor accused of sexual harassment were spray-painted on a building at Seoul Women’s University in Nowon-gu, Seoul. On the 21st, according to Seoul Women’s University, Professor A, the individual involved in the sexual harassment allegations, submitted his resignation to the university headquarters the previous day.

A university representative stated, “Professor A’s resignation was processed as of the 20th, and other professors from the department will take over his classes for this semester.”

It is reported that Seoul Women’s University imposed a three-month salary reduction on Professor A last September following reports of him sexually harassing and assaulting students. This fact came to the students’ attention only in September of this year, leading them to post notices criticizing Professor A and the university. In response, Professor A filed a lawsuit against the authors of the notices, claiming they contained false information.

As a result, students conducted a “spray paint protest” on campus and held a rally in front of the Nowon Police Station on the 19th, demanding the charges against the accused be dropped.

Professor A is reportedly continuing with legal actions against the students who wrote the notices. A police official stated, “There have been no cancellations of related charges to date.”
