The labor and management of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have concluded this year’s wage and collective bargaining agreement.

After repeated disruptions and difficulties, the union managed to finalize an agreement within the year by approving the second tentative agreement.

[Report]

The wage and collective bargaining negotiations at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have finally been settled.

The union passed the second tentative agreement through a member vote.

It has been about five months since the first meeting.

The labor-management agreement includes a 130,000 won increase in the basic salary and a 4.7 million won incentive.

According to the company, this agreement results in an average wage increase effect of 17.06 million won for union members, including performance bonuses.

In the process of these negotiations, the ‘boom in the shipbuilding industry’ that returned for the first time in a while posed considerable challenges to the negotiations.

Although the union anticipated a significant wage increase due to greatly improved business performance, the company insisted it could not delay future investments that had been pending for some time, leading to a stalemate.

Frequent strikes, assaults leading to legal actions between labor and management, and the rejection of the first tentative agreement resulted in more disruptions and difficulties than ever before.

Concerns were mounting about possibly carrying over the negotiations into the next year, especially with the upcoming year-end personnel changes, organizational reorganization, and the union delegates’ election next month.

However, both labor and management, sharing a consensus to extend the boom in the shipbuilding industry, made mutual concessions and dramatically finalized the wage and collective bargaining agreement.

The labor and management plan to sign the agreement soon and completely conclude this long and arduous year’s negotiations.
