**Emergency Quarantine, Crisis Alert Raised to ‘Severe’**
15 Livestock Markets Temporarily Closed
South Jeolla Province has implemented entry controls and quarantine activities at a Hanwoo (Korean beef cattle) farm in Yeongam on the 17th, as reported by the provincial government. On the 18th, the province announced that it is making every effort to prevent the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease, which was confirmed at a farm in Yeongam.
The occurrence was reported by the farm owner, who observed clinical symptoms such as skin nodules, in a farm raising two Hanwoo cattle. The animal health laboratory’s precise testing confirmed a positive result.
Immediately upon confirmation of suspected sick livestock, South Jeolla Province dispatched an initial quarantine team from the Animal Health and Quarantine Support Headquarters and two on-site investigation teams to the farm to manage entry control and disinfection. Emergency measures including the selective culling of infected cattle were taken.
The province raised the crisis alert level from ‘Caution’ to ‘Severe’ in six neighboring regions: Naju, Hwasun, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, and Muan counties.
As a result, a 48-hour temporary suspension of movement for cattle farms, related personnel, and vehicles has been ordered until 10 p.m. on the 19th. Additionally, 15 local livestock markets have been temporarily closed, and 99 collaborative prevention teams and disinfectant vehicles from the counties are being fully deployed to strengthen quarantine measures.
The province has designated a 5 km radius from the outbreak farm as a quarantine zone, enforcing movement restrictions and clinical inspections on 336 cattle farms. As of now, there are no additional suspected cases.
