‘임이자 국민의힘 의원 등 여당 노동특별위원회(노동특위) 위원들이 12일 정부와 첫 회의를 열고 폭염·호우 대비 상황을 점검했다.’
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, members of the ruling party’s labor committee held their first meeting with the government on the 12th to discuss and inspect ‘measures to prevent industrial accidents related to heat waves and heavy rain.’ The committee members visited construction sites to check on the preparedness for preventing industrial accidents caused by summer heat waves and heavy rain. Following this, they met with workers in heat-sensitive occupations such as formwork, rebar, and concrete to listen to their concerns.
Chairperson of the labor committee, Representative Lim I-ja, inspected construction sites, work areas, safety education sites, rest facilities, and health management rooms, emphasizing the government’s primary responsibility to protect the lives and health of workers in industrial sites. She urged for focused management of facilities vulnerable to heat waves and heavy rain, along with enhancing government activities such as technical guidance and supervision at the site.
Accompanying the on-site inspection, Labor Minister Lee Sung-hee stated, “To prevent industrial accidents due to summer heat waves and heavy rain, central government agencies, local governments, private safety and health experts, and related associations will collaborate to respond intensively based on field activities.”
During the inspection process, An Byung-cheol, the Chief Safety Officer (CSO) at Samsung C&T’s construction division, mentioned that they are adhering to the three basic rules for preventing heat-related illnesses, and diligently implementing measures for different levels of heat waves. They also explained that disaster prevention measures considering terrain and rainfall are being implemented for each site, along with emergency preparedness training.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment has designated the period from June to August as a ‘Special Response Period for Heat Waves, Heavy Rain, and Typhoons,’ and is actively responding to it. They are distributing heat illness prevention guides and self-inspection checklists primarily to heat-vulnerable workplaces, guiding them to conduct self-inspections by the 16th, and planning to focus on monitoring and supervising the implementation of heat illness prevention measures thereafter.
