The increase in medical school admissions for next year has practically become an established fact as per the court’s ruling.

Prospective test-takers have started to earnestly devise their test-taking strategies.

Amidst the revival of the medical school craze, it is forecasted that a large number of ‘repeat test-takers,’ including students who are taking the exam for the nth time, will take on the challenge.

Next year, the number of incoming medical school students will increase by about 1,500 compared to previous years.

There are talks that the likelihood of top-performing students knocking on the doors of medical schools has increased.

With the increase in challengers, it is expected that both regular and special admissions to medical schools will see a slight decrease in the acceptance score.

One test prep company has put forth an analysis that the minimum acceptance score for medical schools for third-year high school students this year will decrease to around 2.91 points.

An upward trend in applications is expected to begin from the upcoming September’s special admissions process.

There are also predictions that due to the ripple effect of the medical school expansion, the acceptance scores for all STEM fields may be adjusted.

The emergence of ‘repeat test-takers,’ including those taking the test for the nth time, is a variable to consider.

Generally, ‘repeat test-takers’ who have studied longer tend to have higher test scores than third-year high school students.

Consequently, with an increase in ‘repeat test-takers,’ it cannot be ruled out that the difficulty level of the test may increase for the sake of differentiation.

[Im Seong-ho / Representative of Jongno Academy: Typically, around 80,000 people are repeat test-takers, but with an increase in the medical school admission quota, the number can approach around 90,000. Third-year high school students may experience larger score fluctuations than usual from practice exams, and it may become more difficult to gauge the test difficulty.]

Furthermore, with the expansion of the regional student admission system in medical schools, there may be more overlapping acceptances, leading to an increase in additional admissions.

Therefore, in the first year of the increased medical school admissions, a fierce competition among test-takers is anticipated compared to usual.
