The first formal trial of Lee Sang-min, the former Minister of the Interior and Safety, who has been indicted and detained on charges of ordering power and water cuts to media outlets related to former President Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law on December 3, will be held on the 17th at the Seoul Central District Court.
During the trial, the special investigation team will state the charges, and the defense will present Lee’s stance. The entire trial process will be broadcast after audio removal and mosaic treatment.
Media outlets are allowed to capture images of Lee sitting in the defendant’s seat in the court, making the trial process directly available to the public.
Lee claims that he communicated his opposition to martial law to the President, but he has been brought to trial on charges related to insurrection, including aiding and abetting illegal martial law and giving false testimony.
