“Later, having a baby and parenting…” A comment that fueled the women’s university protest [Social Pick]

Students of Dongduk Women’s University are demanding the withdrawal of plans to transition to a co-ed institution. The protest was intensified by the presence of police at the scene.

As news spread about Dongduk Women’s University discussing becoming a co-educational institution, students held a protest at the main building yesterday (11th). The police were eventually dispatched, but comments unrelated to the protest about pregnancy and childbirth also sparked controversy.

The area in front of the main building was lined with discarded university jackets, and the statue of the founder of Dongduk Women’s University was smeared with eggs and filth. All over the campus, there were red-lettered slogans opposing co-education.

The student council of Dongduk Women’s University claimed that “as long as gender discrimination exists, women’s universities provide a safe discussion space free from societal discrimination and hatred,” demanding the retraction of the co-ed transition. The university administration stated that it was just one of many ideas under consideration.
