Jeonju Jesus Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Care After One Year: 8,736 Children Treated

[Jeonju=Newsis] Reporter Choi Jeong-gyu = Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 25th that the Pediatric Emergency Medical Center at Jeonju Jesus Hospital treated 8,736 children during its first year of operation.

Jesus Hospital was designated last year by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as the only pediatric emergency medical center in the Honam region. The facility is equipped with advanced facilities and equipment that consider the age-specific characteristics of pediatric emergency patients. It has been staffed 24/7 by four specialists and eleven nurses.

From May last year to April this year (as of the 24th), a total of 8,736 pediatric emergency patients (an average of 728 per month) visited, with 1,854 receiving emergency treatment at the Pediatric Emergency Medical Center followed by hospitalization.

Over 90% of visiting patients were emergency cases. Of these, 597 patients (6.83%) came from outside the province, indicating that the center provides swift and specialized emergency medical services to pediatric emergency patients both within Jeonbuk and from other areas.

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will support Jesus Hospital with 960 million won this year to strengthen the pediatric emergency medical system. Plans include supporting pediatric treatment rooms at regional emergency medical centers (Wonkwang University Hospital, 500 million won) and the Southwest Pediatric Outpatient Treatment Center (Jeongeup Asan Hospital, 1 billion won) to enable pediatric emergency patients to receive treatment at night and during holidays.

In addition, the number of Dalbit Children’s Hospitals will expand from five to seven, building a more comprehensive emergency medical system.

A Jeonbuk provincial official stated, “In the current situation where there is a national shortage of pediatric specialists, Jesus Hospital is diligently operating the Pediatric Emergency Medical Center. We will continue to provide significant interest and support from a provincial level to ensure that Jesus Hospital can provide stable, specialized emergency medical services for children and adolescents.”
