, ‘The space industry cluster construction project will be officially launched after completing the feasibility study.’,
,
, ‘The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 24th that it had reviewed and approved the feasibility study results for the ‘Space Industry Cluster Triangular System Construction Project’ at the 6th National R&D Project Evaluation Committee meeting chaired by Ryu Kwang-jun, Director of Science and Technology Innovation.’
,
, ‘The government designated Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Daejeon as space industry clusters in December 2022. Jeollanam-do is designated as a launch vehicle special zone, Gyeongsangnam-do as a satellite special zone, and Daejeon as a research and talent development special zone. The government plans to allocate a budget of 380.8 billion won to support the three special zones by 2030.’,
,
, ‘First, in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, a dedicated launch site for private space launch vehicles and a launch vehicle technology commercialization center that performs assembly, testing, performance evaluation, and verification of core components of launch vehicles will be established.’,
,
, ‘In Gyeongsangnam-do, a ‘Space Environment Test Facility’ where private satellites can be tested in space-like environments and a ‘Satellite Development Innovation Center’ equipped with facilities, equipment for satellite development, workforce development, commercialization, and business support functions will be established. The space environment test facility will be located in Jinju, and the satellite development innovation center will be in Sacheon.’,
,
, ‘In Daejeon, a Space Technology Innovation Talent Development Center will be established within the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). It plans to develop and operate a practical-oriented curriculum for space majors or beginners to meet the demand for space development professionals.’,
,
, ‘Noh Kyung-won, Vice President of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, said, “We will do our best to support the creation of the world’s best space industry cluster, in line with the leap of the Republic of Korea as a space economic power and the era’s demand for regional balanced development.”
,
, ‘However, the business scale and period have been reduced from the initial plan. The government’s plan announced last year stated that 600 billion won would be invested in supporting the space industry cluster until 2031. The period has been shortened by one year, and the investment scale has been reduced by over 200 billion won. Regarding this, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute stated, “The total project cost reflected in this feasibility study result was focused on infrastructure (construction, equipment, etc.),” and explained that “R&D and workforce development-related projects in these facilities will be pursued separately in the future.”
