Gyeonggi Province, Hwaseong, Gwangmyeong, Anseong, and Yangpyeong selected as ‘Integrated Care Cities’… Implementing the first national partnership initiative

Gyeonggi Province has selected four cities and counties—Hwaseong, Gwangmyeong, Anseong, and Yangpyeong—as “integrated care cities” and plans to establish five interconnected infrastructures for medical care, nursing, and housing by the first half of the year. This initiative aims to build a “Gyeonggi-style integrated care model” tailored to the demographic structure and characteristics of each region, ahead of the implementation of the “Act on Integrated Support for Local Care, including Medical and Nursing” in March.

The province plans to invest a total of 6.4 billion won (state and municipal funds) to lead in integrated care policy, proving Gyeonggi’s leadership in execution. The law is intended to ensure that seniors, people with disabilities, and others in need of care receive necessary services at home by consolidating them.

The five infrastructures to be provided in the integrated care cities include:

1. Local home-visit care teams to deliver medical, nursing, and welfare services directly to patients’ homes.
2. A one-stop package for home nursing and care services, eliminating the need for separate applications.
3. Interim recovery homes to help patients transition from hospital to home.
4. Treatment stations offering local rehabilitation services for up to three months post-hospital discharge.
5. AIP (Aging In Place) coordinators to tailor and manage personalized welfare and medical services for individuals needing care.

Gyeonggi Province invited applications from January 15 to 30 for the selection of participating cities and counties. The selected areas, based on the province’s five-service design, will support residents in aging in place healthfully. By March 27, these areas are expected to complete budget arrangements and begin receiving service applications in March and April, with businesses commencing by mid-year.

Citizens wishing to benefit from integrated support can apply through local town or district offices. Consultations, assessments, and integrated support meetings will determine and connect eligible citizens to appropriate services. The province expects this initiative will not only provide services but also successfully establish the new government’s core task of “integrated care enjoyed where one lives,” thus realizing practical welfare innovation across Gyeonggi.
