Jeonnam Governor Kim Yeong-rok attended a video conference of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, presided over by Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok. During the meeting, he suggested providing livelihood support to the families of the victims of the “December 29 Muan Airport Jeju Air Disaster.”

During the meeting, Governor Kim stated, “Tragically, there are bereaved families who are unable to sustain their livelihood because of the accident,” and added, “Although fundraising by the Community Chest of Korea is underway, please consider providing an emergency grant of 3 million won for urgent cases.” He also proposed a request from the bereaved families for the restoration of severely damaged bodies and the publication of a white paper documenting the accident response procedures.

Following the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting, Governor Kim immediately chaired Jeonnam’s response meeting. He stated, “Airport management falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, but since the accident occurred in the Jeonnam region, please humbly, reflectively, and sincerely do your best to comfort and heal the bereaved families.” Jeonnam Province plans to actively pursue measures such as identifying the cause of the accident and compensating the victims.

Prior to this, Jeonnam Province recommended postponing non-urgent events until the end of the mourning period for the accident victims on the 4th. They also deployed personnel to ensure that visitors to the joint memorial altar at Muan Airport and other regional altars do not face inconvenience.
