Daejeon City, Call for Candidates for the 31st Economic Science Awards

Six Sectors: Export, Science and Technology, Venture Business, Industry-Academia Cooperation, Distribution, and Agriculture… Applications Accepted Until October 31

Daejeon City has announced on the 2nd that it is accepting nominations for the 31st Daejeon Metropolitan City Economic Science Awards to recognize individuals who have contributed to the local economy and scientific development.

This annual award, which has been conducted since 1994, is the highest honor in the region and aims to recognize and promote individuals who have significantly contributed to the development of the local economy and scientific fields.

The call for nominations spans six sectors: Export, Science and Technology, Venture Business, Industry-Academia Cooperation, Distribution and Consumer Protection, and Agriculture.

Nominees must have resided in or maintained a main office in Daejeon for at least one year as of the date of the award and have been active in the local economy and science fields for at least one year.

Nominations can be submitted by heads of relevant agencies and organizations or district mayors within the city. It is also possible if more than 20 Daejeon citizens jointly sign a nomination.

Required documents include a nomination form, a record of achievements, and evidence supporting the merits. The necessary forms can be downloaded from the announcement board in the Administrative Information menu on the Daejeon City Hall website.

Applications will be accepted for 30 days from October 2 to October 31. Submissions can be made in person or by mail to the City Hall’s Job Economy Policy Division.

Daejeon City plans to select one winner from each of the six categories through a review by the Economic Science Awards Committee.

The final awardees will receive plaques in December in the name of the Daejeon Metropolitan Mayor. However, under the Public Official Election Act, prize money or additional rewards will not be provided.

Certain exclusions apply. Individuals with an achievement period of less than one year, those who have been awarded by a superior institution for the same achievements within one year, or those who have received disciplinary actions within the past two years are not eligible.

Additionally, individuals who have faced societal censure due to crimes such as sexual offenses or drunk driving are also disqualified from being nominees.

Kwon Kyung-min, Director of the Daejeon City Economic Bureau, stated, “We ask for the active interest and nominations from the citizens so that those who have devoted themselves to the economic and scientific progress of Daejeon can be selected for this award.”
