60-Year-Old Woman Hit While Alighting from Bus: Injury Not Considered Minor

A man in his 40s has been fined after injuring a pedestrian with an electric scooter. The court ruled that the woman’s injuries, which required four weeks of recovery, were not minor.

Judge Shin Heung-ho from the Incheon District Court sentenced Mr. A (45), a chauffeur driver, to a fine of 2 million KRW for causing injury by traffic accident negligence. The incident occurred on January 20th at around 10 PM in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, where Mr. A hit a woman in her 60s who was getting off a bus at a stop, resulting in a fractured rib and other injuries requiring four weeks to heal.

The judge noted that the severity of the injuries and the lack of compensation contributed to the guilty verdict. However, Mr. A was shown leniency because he had no prior offenses of a similar nature and has shown remorse.

There has been an increase in electric scooter-related accidents. Recently, a high school student involved in a deadly unlicensed incident last June received a prison sentence, and an accident involving two middle school students using scooters without licenses resulted in serious injuries to a woman.
