National Forensic Service: “Death due to Hypovolemic Shock from Trauma”
Deliberation on the disclosure of suspect’s identity as early as the 6th
A man in his 30s has been arrested on charges of killing a woman he met for the first time with a weapon in Seocheon, Chungnam.
On the 5th, the Hongseong Branch of the Daejeon District Court conducted a pre-trial detention examination for the suspect, identified as A, who is suspected of murder, and issued an arrest warrant stating that there is a risk of flight.
Suspect A is accused of killing a woman in her 40s, identified as B, at around 9:45 p.m. on the 2nd, after wandering the streets of Sagok-ri, Seocheon-gun for about an hour and attacking her with a weapon he had prepared.
The police launched a search after receiving a report from B’s family that she had not returned home late at night after going out for exercise. Her body was discovered at 3:45 a.m. on the 3rd.
B’s body was found not far from the center of Seocheon-eup, but there were no surveillance cameras installed near the crime scene.
Based on CCTV footage from nearby stores, the police identified and tracked suspect A, arresting him at his residence in Seocheon-gun on the morning of the 3rd.
The National Forensic Service provided an oral opinion to the police, suggesting that B’s cause of death was “hypovolemic shock from trauma.”
During questioning, suspect A admitted to the crime, stating, “I recently lost money due to fraud. I was under immense stress, and it felt like the world wasn’t helping me.” He also said, “That’s why I took the weapon and went out, and I stabbed B as soon as I saw her.”
The police are focusing on the suspicion that suspect A planned the crime in advance, given that he wandered around with a weapon searching for a target. A reportedly claimed he “picked up the weapon a few days ago on the street and had kept it at home.”
A police official stated, “We are conducting a forensic examination of A’s mobile phone to verify if he was indeed a victim of fraud and how he acquired the weapon, among other things. We plan to discuss holding a review committee for disclosing his personal information as early as the 6th.”

“The place was where residents often enjoyed taking walks.” Noh Young-chul (72), a resident of Sagok-ri, Seocheon-eup, spoke to Kyunghyang Shinmun about the location of the murder on the 4th. Noh stated, “The scene of the incident is near a residential area with many apartments, where residents frequently went for exercise,” expressing disbelief over the murder in what was normally a peaceful village.
