Zelensky and EU leaders discuss peace plans… “Territorial issues are very complex”

**Zelensky and Leaders of UK, France, and Germany Hold Four-Party Talks**

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, announced plans to relay a revised peace proposal, discussed with key European leaders, to the United States the following day. This meeting took place in London at the residence of the UK Prime Minister on the 8th local time.

The leaders included UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The discussion focused on the terms for ending the war and lasted over two hours.

President Zelensky underscored Ukraine’s firm stance on territorial integrity, stating, “Ukraine cannot cede any land.” The peace proposal discussed comprised 20 articles. While the US seeks a compromise, no agreement on territorial matters has yet been reached.

US negotiators are in ongoing discussions with representatives from both Ukraine and Russia, struggling to bridge significant differences. The initial American proposal included 28 provisions, notably suggesting reallocation of the entire Donbas region to Russia and downsizing the Ukrainian military—a proposal met with strong opposition from Ukraine and European nations. Revised talks now center around 19 provisions, initially reflecting Ukraine’s stance, while core issues such as NATO membership prohibition are left to be decided by the leaders.

Despite efforts, a recent meeting in Florida between Ukrainian and American delegation failed to yield a solution. This meeting followed Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff’s visit to Moscow, representing the Trump administration, to discuss the revised proposal. President Donald Trump expressed frustration over Zelensky’s failure to review America’s proposal.

The European leaders indicated discrepancies with the US, with Prime Minister Starmer affirming support for Ukraine and emphasizing that any ceasefire must be just and sustainable. Chancellor Merz echoed concerns over specific details of the US proposal.

Zelensky acknowledged the challenges of balancing American and European perspectives in the negotiation process, emphasizing the necessity of making critical decisions involving both parties.
