US Embassy in Korea to Temporarily Operate ‘Carter Memorial Space’ in Yongsan

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Byeon Hae-jung: A temporary space to mourn the recently deceased former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will be operated.

The U.S. Embassy in Korea announced on the 2nd that visitors would be allowed to pay their respects at the American Diplomacy House located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Visitors can sign a condolence book for former President Carter at this location.

The visiting hours are from 2 to 4 PM on the 2nd, from 9 to 11 AM and 1 to 4 PM on the 3rd, and from 9 to 11 AM and 1 to 4 PM on the 7th.

To enter, a valid government-issued photo ID is required, but large electronic devices are not permitted.

If visiting in person is difficult, you can send a condolence message via email to Seoul-Condolences@state.gov.

Former President Carter passed away on December 29 of last year (local time) while under hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia. The funeral proceedings will begin on the 4th of next month and conclude on the 9th. A state funeral will be solemnly held at 10 AM on the 9th at the Washington National Cathedral in the capital, Washington, D.C.

U.S. President Joe Biden has declared the 9th a National Day of Mourning.

The South Korean government expressed their condolences over former President Carter’s passing and sent a condolence message in the name of Cho Kyung-mo, acting President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance. They are currently in communication with the U.S. side to dispatch a condolence delegation for the state funeral.
