UN adopts agreement for the future… “Climate response, UN reform”

At the 79th UN General Assembly high-level week, ahead of the gathering of top leaders from around the world, UN member countries adopted the “Agreement for the Future,” which includes guidelines on climate change response and promoting multilateral diplomacy.

Yesterday, local time, UN member countries unanimously adopted the “Agreement for the Future,” which includes guidelines on resolving key global challenges at the “Future Summit” convened at the UN headquarters in New York, USA.

The 193 UN member countries also adopted a global digital agreement and a declaration for future generations as attachments to the Agreement for the Future.

The Future Summit, initiated in 2021 on the proposal of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to revitalize international cooperation, includes 56 guidelines related to multilateralism, support for the UN Charter, and peacekeeping.

While the adopted agreement does not have legal binding force under international law, it carries political and diplomatic significance as it reaffirms principles shared by many UN member countries amid ongoing conflicts in regions like the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan.
