Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief: “North Korean Infantry Supporting Russian Counteroffensive in Kursk”

“[Support from North Korea leads to significant losses for Russian troops and defenses]”

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Moon Yeseong – Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief, stated that North Korean troops have participated in Russia’s attack on the Kursk region. He reported seeing North Korean soldiers fighting alongside Russian troops at the Russian-Kursk border on March 11, 2025.

In a Facebook post on March 10, Syrskyi claimed that a substantial Russian unit launched an offensive with the support of North Korean infantry but suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment. During his visit to Ukrainian units fighting in the Kursk region, Syrskyi mentioned that the enemy lost an entire battalion of infantry over a four-day battle in the village of Plekhovo, Kursk.

He also noted that Russian forces recaptured four villages in the Kursk region the previous day. However, Syrskyi asserted that the Kursk and Sumy border area is under Ukrainian control and there is no current threat of encirclement for Ukrainian units in the Kursk region.
