U.S. Treasury: “If Trump wants to lead a war, the U.S.-China summit may be postponed”

“U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant stated that President Donald Trump’s demand for escorting ships in the Strait of Hormuz will not delay the U.S.-China summit. However, he mentioned that the schedule could be postponed if President Trump chooses to remain in the U.S. to oversee a potential war against Iran.”

“During an interview with CNBC on the 16th (local time), Secretary Besant dismissed speculation that Trump’s demands could adjust the summit schedule, calling it ‘completely incorrect.'”

“He added, ‘If the meeting schedule is reset for any reason, it will be because of the execution plan,’ and noted, ‘this may not be the best time to leave the country during a war against Iran.'”

“On the 15th, in an interview with the Financial Times (FT), President Trump hinted at the possibility of postponing the U.S.-China summit by asking China to join the operation of escorting ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.”

“This raised speculation about whether China’s cooperation would impact the fruition of the summit. President Trump’s visit to Beijing was planned for the end of this month or early next month.”

“White House spokesperson Caroline Rebitt also mentioned to reporters at the White House that day that ‘as Commander-in-Chief, the President’s current top priority is ensuring the continued success of the ‘Grand Fury’ (against Iran) operation,’ indicating that President Trump’s visit to China could be adjusted.”
