Trump: “I Will Meet Xi Jinping in South Korea… Expecting a Fair Agreement”

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated on the 21st local time regarding the US-China trade negotiations that he would meet with Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, in Korea to discuss many things.

At a luncheon event hosted at the White House Rose Garden, President Trump mentioned this, adding, “We have also done well with Japan, Korea, and Europe” and commented that “without the tariffs, such agreements would not have been possible.”

President Trump has announced a 100% additional tariff on Chinese products starting from the 1st of next month in response to China’s rare earth export controls.

If the additional tariffs are implemented, the tariff China must pay to the United States will rise to 157%.

This statement is interpreted as showing confidence that China will actively engage in negotiations with the US to avoid the burden of high tariffs.

President Trump also said, “I maintain a good relationship with President Xi” and expressed hope that “a fair agreement can be reached with him.”

He continued, “I hope President Xi makes a good deal for China,” but emphasized that “the agreement must be fair.”

President Trump stated, “We are going to have a very successful meeting” and added “surely many people are looking forward to that meeting.”

He also declared, “I will negotiate excellently on behalf of the entire American public.”

Furthermore, he emphasized that “tariffs are national security and national wealth,” mentioning that “we have secured hundreds of billions of dollars through tariffs.”

While the U.S. Supreme Court is set to review the legality of the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, President Trump remarked, “In terms of legal grounds, we should win.”
