In an interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump used strong language, stating that the day he plans to announce ‘reciprocal tariffs’ on April 2nd will be “America’s liberation day,” signaling his intention to continue the ‘trade war.’ When asked whether he would hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June, Trump said, “I’m not against it,” but mentioned that “something will happen on April 2nd, and it’s tariffs,” implying that China and other countries will have to pay.
Trump emphasized, “We’ve been exploited by all countries around the world, friends and foes alike,” and said he would call April 2nd “America’s liberation day.” He also criticized NATO, saying, “Before I got involved, we were footing the bill for everything.”
Regarding the federal debt issue, Trump insisted, “We need to pay off our debt,” and mentioned that the U.S. will collect revenues for years, claiming that “we allowed our country to be ‘raped’ and ‘pillaged,’ largely by our allies.”
Trump criticized the European Union (EU), stating, “Look at the EU. We can’t sell cars to them, but they sell millions of cars to us. They won’t buy our agricultural products, but we buy theirs.”
When asked about concerns over a potential recession due to the ‘trade war,’ Trump dismissed the worries, asserting that “we will have the strongest economy in history.” He added, “I only represent America’s interests,” and expressed pride in being a patriot.
