Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, announced that the U.S. will include export control measures in future trade agreements with various countries to prevent China from acquiring U.S. semiconductors.
In a speech at the Bureau of Industry and Security conference on the 18th, Lutnick stated that the U.S. will seek assistance from companies and foreign governments to stop China from obtaining these semiconductors.
Lutnick emphasized that the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, which gained attention earlier this year, has allegedly been misusing U.S. semiconductors.
He also mentioned that there are individuals sending U.S. semiconductors to China for profit, and the Trump administration plans to incorporate export controls into trade agreements to prevent their influx into China.
The trade agreements Lutnick referred to are likely those that will be newly established following the reciprocal tariffs announced by President Trump on April 2nd.
Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the U.S. intends to engage in bilateral negotiations with countries around the world to form new trade agreements post-reciprocal tariffs.
