On the 16th (local time), the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported in an article titled “Tokyo, Asia’s New Sex Tourism Capital” that many foreigners are engaging in sex tourism in Japan due to the recent weakening of the yen and increasing poverty within the country.
In fact, there has been a rise in the number of young women waiting for clients in Tokyo parks, even before sunset.
Teenagers and women in their early 20s, whose economic situations have worsened, are turning to the sex industry for survival. Related violence incidents have surged, worsening the situation.
Yoshihide Tanaka, the Secretary-General of the Japan Youth Protection Liaison Council (Seiboren), stated, “Japan has become a poor country, and parks have reached a level synonymous with prostitution.”
He added, “Foreign men visiting Japan for sex tourism come in various ethnicities, including White, Asian, and Black, but most of them are Chinese. Chinese men are following in the footsteps of Japanese men from the past.”
