According to a China Times report, Taiwan has begun disaster preparations ahead of the landfall of a large typhoon, Kong-rey.

According to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) of Taiwan, as of 2:30 PM local time today, Typhoon Kong-rey, downgraded to a severe tropical storm, is moving northwest at a speed of 20 km/h over the sea, approximately 420 km southeast of Eluanbi in the southernmost part of Taiwan.

The Central Weather Bureau stated that Kong-rey is expected to make landfall in the southern region of Pingtung and the eastern region of Taitung around 11 PM today.

Reports indicate that the central pressure of Kong-rey and its maximum instantaneous wind speed are 915 hectopascals and 234 km/h, respectively.

A weather expert mentioned that due to the high sea temperature near Kong-rey, the typhoon is continuously strengthening, and its area of impact is expanding. The radius of Kong-rey is 320 km, making it the largest since Typhoon Herb in 1996, which had a radius of 350 km.

In response, the weather bureau warned that localized heavy rains may occur in the eastern and some regions tonight during the vulnerable time, advising people to avoid visiting dangerous areas such as rivers and mountainous regions.
