On the 12th, Russia expressed its expectation that the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump will lead to an improvement in bilateral relations.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov mentioned in an interview with the local daily Izvestia, “We hope the upcoming summit will promote the normalization of relations between the two countries.”
Deputy Minister Ryabkov emphasized that although Presidents Putin and Trump are expected to focus on “different topics,” he hopes there will be progress on resolving specific issues, such as the resumption of direct flights between Russia and the United States.
President Trump is scheduled to hold talks with President Putin in Alaska, USA, on the upcoming 15th.
Since the start of President Trump’s second term, Russia and the United States have been negotiating to improve relations, focusing on normalizing the functions of their diplomatic missions.
Russia has previously stated that discussions are being held on the resumption of direct flight routes and resolution of diplomatic asset issues.
