Palestinian Authority Leader Attends ‘Let’s Go Summit’

U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi are scheduled to co-host a summit on the Gaza Strip ceasefire on the 13th local time, with Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, also expected to attend.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) is a rival faction to the armed group Hamas, which has been at war with Israel, and currently controls parts of the West Bank, which is occupied by Israel.

Abbas also leads the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which represents Palestine in the international community.

Last month, on the 29th, President Trump proposed a peace plan to end the Gaza conflict, stating that “if Gaza reconstruction progresses and PA reform programs are faithfully implemented, a credible path toward Palestinian self-determination and state formation could be established.”

The BBC reported on Abbas’s participation in the summit, noting that “despite opposition from Israel, Trump’s Gaza peace initiative has opened the possibility for the PA to play a role if reforms are implemented.”

Meanwhile, Iran declined an invitation to attend the Gaza peace summit from President el-Sisi, as reported by the semi-official Tansnim News Agency and broadcasted by CNN.

The ceasefire agreement parties, Israel and Hamas, will not be attending the event.

The summit will include over 20 world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as well as UN Secretary-General António Guterres. They are expected to express support for the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas.
