“Mexico Holds Large-Scale Celebration for ‘Another Tariff Suspension Against Trump'”

Mexico has held a massive celebration after successfully negotiating a delay in tariff imposition from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had previously threatened a “tariff bomb.” According to reports from international media outlets like the Wall Street Journal and AP News, thousands gathered at Zócalo Square in Mexico City on the 9th to celebrate the two-month postponement of U.S. tariffs.

Initially, the event was planned as a platform for President Sheinbaum to explain Mexico’s response to the unilateral imposition of tariffs by the U.S. However, it transformed into a celebratory occasion after President Trump announced on the 6th, following a call with President Sheinbaum, that the tariffs would be delayed.

President Trump made favorable comments about President Sheinbaum, stating, “Our relationship is very good,” which sparked interest in Sheinbaum’s diplomatic strategy of quietly seeking practical advantage.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the event symbolized unity in defending Mexican sovereignty. Thousands of attendees wore white hats emblazoned with the Mexican flag and carried parasols printed with Sheinbaum’s name. When Sheinbaum took the stage, the crowd chanted “President, President.”

During his speech, President Sheinbaum emphasized both the defense of Mexican sovereignty and the contribution of Mexico to the U.S. economy. He stated, “We cannot give up our sovereignty, and our people cannot be influenced by decisions of foreign governments or hegemonies. If such a situation arises, we will always take immediate action.”

He also noted that while there have been hostile acts between the U.S. and Mexico historically, there have been many periods of cooperation. He recalled that Mexico lost half its territory to the U.S. in the past, but the U.S. provided support when France invaded in the 19th century, and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has strengthened relations since 1994.

Regarding the recent agreement with President Trump, he noted, “Fortunately, dialogue and respect between our countries have prevailed, and we have achieved results so far and will continue to do so.”

Furthermore, President Sheinbaum stressed that Mexico intends no harm to President Trump and expressed support by stating, “We have decided to assist him, particularly by preventing fentanyl from reaching young Americans.”
