Honda and Nissan of Japan are discussing the establishment of a holding company for management integration.

“According to reports by Nikkei and NHK today (18th), Honda and Nissan in Japan are in discussions for a management integration. Honda and Nissan are considering establishing a holding company under which both companies would operate. Since March, the two companies have been exploring collaboration in areas such as electric vehicles and vehicle software (SW). The cooperation between the two companies appears to be aimed at combining their investment and technological strengths in response to the advancements made by Tesla in the U.S. and BYD in China in electric vehicles (EV), autonomous driving, and vehicle software. Last year, Honda and Nissan’s global sales were 3.98 million and 3.37 million units, respectively, totaling approximately 7.35 million units. This would surpass Hyundai Motor Group, which was the world’s third-largest last year. According to last year’s global new car sales data by automotive market research institute MarkLines, Toyota Group ranked first with 11.23 million units, Volkswagen Group was second with 9.23 million units, and Hyundai Motor Group was third with 7.3 million units.
