China has announced its readiness to confront the U.S. in “any type of” war, as a response to President Donald Trump’s tariff executive orders.
The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. retweeted a part of the statement released by the Chinese government on the 4th, which stated, “Whether the U.S. wants a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we are ready to fight until the end,” on their official X account on the 5th.
In the statement, the Chinese government criticized the U.S. for attributing the responsibility for the influx of fentanyl to China.
The British BBC reported on the segment, stating, “This is one of the strongest expressions issued by China since President Trump’s inauguration,” and noted that it emerged as leaders gathered in Beijing for the country’s major political event, the annual National People’s Congress.
The post has been widely shared and, according to the BBC, could be used as evidence by the China hawks in Trump’s cabinet that China is the largest diplomatic and economic threat to the U.S.
