The president and news director of the British public broadcaster BBC have stepped down amid allegations of having manipulated a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump for broadcast.

On the 9th (local time), the BBC announced that Tim Davie, the president, and Deborah Turness, the head of news division, had resigned.

The BBC is facing accusations for allegedly editing Trump’s speech during the “Trump: Second Chance?” documentary special aired last October, making it appear as if the three parts of Trump’s January 6, 2021, speech were one continuous statement, supposedly inciting the Capitol riot.

In response, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt harshly criticized the BBC, calling it “100% fake news” and a “left-wing propaganda machine.”
