Arab League: “Trump’s Plan to Relocate Gaza Residents is Unacceptable”

On February 12, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to relocate residents of the Gaza Strip. According to AFP, during the World Government Summit (WGS) held in Dubai, Gheit expressed that while today’s focus is on the Gaza Strip, attention will shift to the West Bank tomorrow. He stated that the purpose of this relocation is to expel the historic residents of Palestine.

Gheit emphasized that this proposal is unacceptable to the Arab world, which has resisted such ideas for 100 years. He asserted that Arabs, who have resisted for a century, have no reason to surrender now, having never faced political, military, or cultural defeat.

Following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, President Trump suggested relocating Gaza residents to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan, while the U.S. would take control of Gaza and develop it into a resort area. The international community has opposed this plan, particularly Egypt and Jordan, which were mentioned as potential host countries for the Gaza residents.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement rejecting the plan to host Gaza residents, announcing plans to propose a comprehensive reconstruction vision for the Gaza Strip. Similarly, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, after meeting with President Trump, also voiced opposition to the relocation plan. He shared on social media that rebuilding Gaza and addressing its severe humanitarian crisis should be the top priority for everyone, reinforcing this as the unified stance of the Arab world.
