According to reports, a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo ship in the North Sea off the northeast coast of England, UK, resulted in 32 casualties.

The Guardian states that at 9:48 a.m. local time on the 10th, a U.S.-registered oil tanker collided with a Portugal-registered cargo ship about 10 miles off the coast of East Yorkshire, near Grimsby, England.

The UK Coast Guard reported, “At 9:48 a.m., an accident alert was issued,” and an emergency rescue operation was underway.

The Guardian added, “According to tracking data, it appears the oil tanker collided with the cargo ship while it was anchored,” leading to 32 casualties. The identities and conditions of the casualties are still unclear.

Both vessels reportedly caught fire due to the collision.

The area where the collision occurred is a busy maritime passageway connecting ports on the northeast coast of England to the Netherlands and Germany.
