A magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, Japan… Tsunami warning issued.

Last night (8th) at around 11:15 PM, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture in northeastern Japan. The epicenter was located 133 km offshore to the east of Aomori Prefecture, with a depth of 50 km. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning, predicting waves up to 3 meters high, and urged residents in coastal areas such as Hokkaido and Iwate Prefecture to evacuate immediately. Although no abnormalities were detected at nuclear power plants as a result of the earthquake, some train services, including the Tohoku Shinkansen, were suspended. The Japanese government has set up a crisis management office to assess the damage situation.
