“Trump’s Second Term… What is the Direction of Our Space Industry?”

[Anchor]

With the prospect of Trump’s second term, there is growing interest in the space industry.

President-elect Trump is particularly interested to the extent that he personally watched the launch of SpaceX’s spacecraft.

Our reporter, Jisoo Shin, examines what impact this might have on our space industry and how we can prepare for it.

The Starship space probe soars into the sky.

President-elect Trump watched the launch on site with Elon Musk.

He arrived an hour before the launch with his aides and received an explanation from Musk.

[Elon Musk/SpaceX CEO: “The spacecraft is now orbiting the Earth. You can see it better if you come this way.”]

There is analysis suggesting that such actions by President-elect Trump indicate that space-related fields will become a priority in the policies of Trump’s second term.

[Kwak Shin-woong/Professor at Kookmin University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering: “It seems there will be new momentum for both boosting the space industry and space security.”]

President-elect Trump actively engages in space policies, considering the establishment of a Space Force as an achievement and even pledging the creation of a Space Defense Force.

[Trump/President-elect/August speech: “Under my command, I’ve rebuilt the military and established a Space Force.”]

Commercially-led space development, known as ‘New Space,’ is also expected to gain more traction.

Elon Musk, a close associate, advocates for breaking down regulations, and the Republican platform emphasizes strengthening cooperation with the private sector.

This presents opportunities for us, as our goal is to integrate into the global space industry ecosystem.

[Park Si-soo/Space industry consultant: “There are already quite a few companies that have entered, including SpaceX. Our country is focusing on such supply chains.”]

Additionally, there is a call for strengthening public-private cooperation to capture space development demand from third countries like the Middle East.
