The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced the results of the “Information Security Industry Survey,” revealing that the industry’s exports increased by 11.4% to 1.9 trillion won. The domestic information security industry’s annual sales were found to be nearly 19 trillion won. According to the survey results released on the 6th, the total sales of the domestic information security industry last year were 18.5945 trillion won, a 10.5% increase from the previous year.
Sales by sector showed that information security increased by 15.9% to 7.1244 trillion won, while physical security rose by 7.3% to 11.4701 trillion won. Information security saw growth in the common infrastructure security solutions and endpoint security solutions sectors, while physical security experienced increased sales in security cameras and security equipment components.
The total export amount of the domestic information security industry last year was 1.8722 trillion won, a 11.4% increase. Exports in information security decreased by 15.9% to 124.2 billion won, but physical security exports increased by 14.1% to 1.748 trillion won, driving the overall increase in exports.
The MSIT explained that the sharp decline in information security exports was due to global big tech companies expanding their own cloud security investments, significantly reducing exports of cloud security solutions.
Meanwhile, the number of domestic information security companies last year was 1,780, a 4.2% increase from the previous year. The number of companies in the information security sector increased by 7.6% to 876, while the physical security sector saw a 1.1% increase to 904 companies.
The total number of employees in the domestic information security industry was 66,367, a 10.0% increase from the previous year. The number of employees in the information security sector was 23,987, about the same level as the previous year, but the number of employees in the physical security sector increased by 16.6% to 42,380.
