Kakao’s content CIC announced on the 14th that its portal Daum has updated its special page for the 21st presidential election with candidate information and voter participation features. Under the slogan “Choice that makes Daum,” the goal is to quickly and accurately provide various election information that can assist voters in making informed decisions.
Ahead of the presidential election on June 3, Daum launched its special page on April 30. Through tabs such as Home, News, Polls, Media Specials, and Debates, users can easily access various election information and news at a glance.
The news tab provides a theme-based news space, allowing users to gather and view articles on topics of interest. Articles are categorized by theme, such as campaign promises and policies by field, in-depth planning, fact-checking, and party preparations, enabling users to understand issues comprehensively. In the Polls and Media Specials tabs, users can find media-specific poll articles and interact with content and special pages operated by the media themselves.
In this update, Candidate and Participation tabs were introduced. Under the Candidate tab, individual tabs for each candidate allow users to comprehensively view the candidates’ statements, videos, photo collections, and policy news by field. In the Participation tab, voters can leave a wish message of up to 10 characters on the theme “The Korea I envision.” From the early voting day on the 29th, voters can also register proof of voting photos.
The special page will be continuously updated until election day. It plans to update information on early polling stations and voting places, and on election day, it will provide real-time information such as ballot count rates, vote percentages, and status in contested regions. Additionally, PC banners and a mobile top tab will be established to enhance access to election information.
Daum Search and Kakao Map also provide various election information. By searching for election-related keywords on Daum, users can check election information, candidate details, and campaign promises. Kakao Map allows users to find the locations of early polling and election day voting stations.
Daum also strengthens its response to misinformation and unfair election reporting. Through its announced “Presidential Election Service Operating Principles” at the end of April, it aims to provide fair and ample election information, actively responding to incorrect information or articles via a 24-hour customer service center and monitoring. Furthermore, it is operating a process to report false information, slander, and deepfakes in collaboration with the National Election Commission.
Choi Dae-hoon, content CIC election TF leader, stated, “We structured the special page so that voters can easily access rich election information and quickly and clearly understand major issues,” adding, “We will focus on providing objective information and strengthening monitoring to foster a fair election culture and healthy public opinion space.”
