On the 1st, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the ‘2025 AI Hacking Defense Competition (ACDC)’ at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
“[The Fact|Reporter Woo Jisoo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that they held the finals for the ‘2025 AI Hacking Defense Competition (2025 ACDC)’, which challenges the three major areas of AI security: security using AI, the inherent safety of AI models, and platform security, on the 1st.”
The Ministry, along with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA), hosted the competition at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Under the theme ‘AI for Everyone, Security for Everyone’, the hacking defense competition is characterized by its coverage of all aspects of AI security, including △security using AI, △ensuring AI’s safety, and △AI platform security.
The competition is conducted in the CTF (Capture the Flag) format, where participants solve problems and find hidden strings (Flags) in a cloud-isolated environment to earn points. The preliminary rounds, held last month, saw fierce competition with 187 teams and 748 participants, including public institutions, major corporate red teams, and world hacking competition winners.
In the finals, the top 20 teams from the preliminaries compete for 8 hours. Leading contenders include Tiwori’s ‘The Bald Duck’, which ranked first in the general division, and the university student division’s top seed, a joint team from KAIST and Seoul National University, ‘Made into a Hive’.
The conference held alongside the opening ceremony attracted significant attention with participation from global AI company representatives. Keynotes and seminars featured Gabor Cselle, OpenAI manager, Ian Lim, Cisco Asia-Pacific region customer executive, and Rao Surapaneni, Google Cloud vice president, sharing insights on the new security environments led by AI.
The final winning team will be announced at an awards ceremony on the 2nd, the day after the finals. The top five teams demonstrating the most outstanding AI security capabilities will receive awards, including the Minister of Science and ICT Award, and a total prize of 60 million KRW.
Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, Kyung Hoon Bae, stated, “AI is both a tool that threatens security and the most powerful shield protecting the digital environment,” hoping the event will become a platform for AI security talents to learn and collaborate.
