The Ministry of Science and ICT Engages with Korean Scientists at the Korea-Canada Science and Technology Conference

From July 28 to August 1, the “2025 Korea-Canada Science and Technology Conference” was held in Montreal, Canada. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 3rd that it attended the conference to discuss ways to expand science and technology ties between Korea and Canadian-Korean scientists.

The CKC is an international academic conference co-hosted by the Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies. It aims to facilitate academic discussions, information exchange, and personal exchanges between scientists and engineers from Korea and Canada.

This year marked the 15th CKC, focusing on future advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology under the theme of joint development through new technology cooperation between Canada and Korea. The event featured eight tech forums on science, technology, and innovation (STI), along with six special sessions including a young scientists program, attracting around 500 participants from both countries, including scientists, government officials, businesspeople, and students.

Jonak Hyun, head of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council Support Team, attended the opening ceremony and presented the Overseas Scientist of the Year Award (Minister’s Award) to Professor Jungwoo Kim from the University of Calgary in Canada. The Ministry also introduced its ‘Recruitment Program for Overseas Excellent Scientists’ (Brain Pool Program) during a meeting with Korean scientists.

The Ministry of Science and ICT expressed its desire to continue discussions and cooperation with Canada, a leading country in fields like AI, across various domains. It hopes that the cooperation agendas discussed at the CKC will lead to tangible outcomes through government consultation bodies like the Science and Technology Joint Committee.
