SKT: “Operating at the highest level of FDS… Preventing clone phone access on the network”

“SK Telecom announced on the 19th that it has upgraded its Fraud Detection System (FDS) to the highest level as a follow-up measure to a server hacking incident.”

“This action is interpreted as a response to the possibility raised during a joint public-private investigation interim report that unique device identifiers (IMEI) could have been leaked.”

“SK Telecom explained that the advanced FDS is a technology that detects and blocks various abnormal authentication attempts, including illegally cloned SIM card authentication, in real-time within the network.”

“Since the previous day, SKT has been enhancing its FDS system and has added a solution to the network to block access from illegally cloned mobile phones.”

“Kim Yong-dae, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at KAIST and an advisory member of SK’s Information Security Innovation Special Committee, stated, ‘This technology authenticates the unique information possessed only by SKT SIM cards and can block cloned SIMs that do not have this information.'”
