“PUBG, ‘eSports World Cup’ discipline competition to begin on the 21st”

[Edaily reporter Kim Hyun-ah] Krafton Inc. (CEO Kim Chang-han) will host the ‘eSports World Cup (EWC)’ event for PUBG: Battlegrounds developed by Krafton from the 21st to the 25th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

EWC is the world’s largest eSports event hosted by the eSports World Cup Federation, and will take place from July 3 to August 25th. With a total prize pool of $60 million (about 803 billion won), this is the highest amount in the history of eSports competitions.

Battlegrounds is the final event of this competition, where a total of 24 teams, including the top 8 global power ranking teams and 16 teams that passed the EWC regional qualifiers, will compete for a total prize pool of $2 million (about 27 billion won).

Teams such as T1, Gen.G, and Danawa eSports from Korea will participate, along with teams selected from China, Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), the Americas, and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions.

The competition will have a group stage from the 21st to the 23rd, where the 24 teams will be divided into 3 groups to play 12 matches. The top 16 teams will advance to the finals, which will take place on the 24th and 25th. The top teams will receive prize money and points to qualify for the Battlegrounds Global Championship (PGC) 2024.

The matches will start at 12 a.m. KST for the group stage and 6:15 p.m. KST for the finals, and will be broadcasted on the Africa TV Battlegrounds eSports channel.

Krafton collaborates with global game studios to develop and publish various games, and explores new business areas such as multimedia entertainment, deep learning, and the metaverse. Some of their flagship games include PUBG: Battlegrounds, Calisto Protocol, and New State Mobile.
