Naver says, “The emergence of Deepseek is an innovative event… Open to cooperation with big tech.” [Conference Call]

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Yoon Jung-min = Naver recently evaluated the issue surrounding the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek as highly innovative, demonstrating that latecomers can catch up to leading companies with small-scale investments.

Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon, during a conference call announcing the company’s fourth-quarter results on the morning of the 7th, stated, “We are focusing on enhancing multi-model capabilities and inference abilities to ensure that the technological gap with leading companies does not widen. We are also continuously exploring various cost-efficiency measures.”

CEO Choi explained, “While competitors are adopting strategies to expand AI capabilities indefinitely and pioneer new markets, HyperClovaX aims to efficiently build the optimized model capabilities and speed for Naver services. We plan to update our flagship model this month and showcase results in diverse multimodal areas like voice, image, and video within the year.”

She continued, “Although there hasn’t been a direct application in service provision yet, we remain open to collaborations and continue discussing opportunities with global big tech LLM (Large Language Models) and various other external LLMs.”

CEO Choi added, “Rather than bringing significant changes to Naver, we believe the pace of change has accelerated. Having our own model gives us the flexibility to consider the adoption of external LLMs. The competition among AI-powered services like Naver is expected to become more intense, with the pace quickening.”

Furthermore, she stated, “Naver is one of the internet platforms with the most quality data and vertical platforms that can be integrated with AI to provide services, which will further accelerate the pace of business development.”
