During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, LG Uplus CEO Hong Beom-shik outlined the company’s AI vision, focusing on the concept of “people-centered AI” to address potential side effects of technology development. As part of this vision, LG Uplus is emphasizing “Assured, Adaptive, Accompanied, and Altruistic” AI, dubbed the “4A” approach. This initiative aims to ensure personal data protection and reliable AI services, which contrasts with the current trend of focusing on sales and handling data security reactively.
At MWC 2025, LG Uplus introduced technologies like “Anti-Deep Voice” for detecting AI-generated voices and the “On-Device Small Language Model” (SLM) to prevent personal data leaks. They also showcased the expansion of their AI call assistant “EQUIO,” initially launched in December as an AI call assistant for iPhones and recently expanded to Android users with its new capabilities.
Additionally, LG Uplus announced partnerships with Google and Middle Eastern telecom giant Zain Group to explore EQUIO’s overseas expansion, including in Saudi Arabia. They are also collaborating with AWS for B2B AI services in Korea, creating an “AI Innovation Center” for AI transformation consulting, similar to KT’s partnership with Microsoft.
CEO Hong, marking three months in his role, expressed LG Uplus’s commitment to becoming a leader in the AI era, despite being a challenger in the telecom market.
