On the 16th, KT announced that it is strengthening media platform technology collaboration with group companies like KT Skylife and KT HCN to expand synergies.

KT explained that it will blur the boundaries between transmission methods of Internet TV (IPTV), satellite broadcasting, and cable TV, based on ‘technology neutrality’. It will supply advanced set-top boxes based on Internet Protocol (IP) transmission methodology to satellite broadcaster KT Skylife and cable TV operator KT HCN.

Technology neutrality means allowing satellite broadcasting, cable TV, and IPTV operators to provide services using other operators’ transmission methods as per the Broadcasting Act.

KT Skylife and KT HCN have launched premium broadcasting services ‘iFit TV’ and ‘iFit TV_H’ respectively, using the IP transmission method via KT’s internet network.

iFit TV provides high-quality media services such as online video service (OTT) content offered by Genie TV, AI-based recommendations and searches, mobile catch-up, and an intuitive user interface (UI/UX). KT also stated that they reduced the size and weight of the set-top boxes, significantly lowered standby power consumption, and improved booting and channel switching speed.

Existing KT Skylife and KT HCN customers can apply for iFit TV through each company’s customer service or stores to switch set-top boxes and enjoy IPTV-level services.

Cho Gwang-cheol, head of KT’s IPTV Business Division (Senior Vice President), said, “Based on technology neutrality, KT has enhanced the quality competitiveness of its media services by strengthening media platform collaboration among group companies,” and added, “KT will continue to upgrade customer experiences and drive growth in the group’s media business through the development of differentiated products and integrated marketing by each group company.”
