The Media Communication Committee announced today (24th) that cooperation in next-generation broadcasting media between Korea and Brazil is being pursued, including broadcasting technology collaboration and content exchange.

Chairman Kim Jong-cheol met with Frederico de Siqueira Filho, the Brazilian Minister of Communications, at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, to discuss ways of cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to support Brazil’s next-generation media platform project, “Brazil TV 3.0,” using Korea’s ultra-high definition (UHD) commercialization experience.

Last year, the technology developed by the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and proposed jointly with the American Broadcasting Standards Organization (ATSC) was adopted as the transmission standard for Brazil TV 3.0.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of high-quality media services and content for the establishment of next-generation media platforms, agreeing on the need for cooperation to establish a new media ecosystem, including over-the-top (OTT) services.

Chairman Kim Jong-cheol stated, “This meeting with Brazil, which is leading innovation in the global media market, will become a new starting point where the innovative capabilities and future vision of both countries combine to jointly lead the prosperity of the South American region.”

Minister Siqueira emphasized strategic cooperation between the two countries in the audiovisual and broadcasting fields, stating, “Korea, which stands out globally in terms of innovation, can be a key partner for Brazil’s advancement in next-generation digital television.”

The Media Communication Committee plans to enhance cooperation to ensure that advanced services and technologies between the two countries develop in a mutually beneficial direction, based on this meeting.
