LG Uplus announced on the 11th that it has updated its IPTV voice search function based on its AI system, ixi. This update allows users to conduct searches through conversational interactions. Previously, customers could only search for desired content using simple keywords. However, with the latest update, they can filter content by asking questions like “Are there any Korean movies?” or change criteria by saying “Not action, but romance.” They can also make further inquiries like “What else is interesting?” for re-search purposes.
The AI is capable of engaging in dialogue with customers, quickly identifying content information that aligns with the customer’s preferences. Additionally, the new update allows the AI to recommend content proactively by asking questions such as “How about this drama?”
This update goes beyond simple “ask-and-answer” searches, allowing users to refine their searches even if the content they are looking for is not clearly defined. According to LG Uplus, this enables customers to find content more efficiently.
After the update, customers can use voice commands for settings adjustments while watching live TV and VOD player screens. Data from U+tv usage indicates that previously users had to click the remote an average of eight times to watch the next episode of a VOD, six times for playback speed settings, and nine times for subtitle settings. To improve user convenience, voice command settings have been introduced, allowing users to press the microphone button on the remote during playback and issue commands like “Turn on subtitles,” “Play episode 2,” “Show at double speed,” or “Start from 1 hour 10 minutes.”
In addition to viewing convenience features, users can also utilize voice commands for parental controls limiting age-appropriate and adult content, real-time commentary broadcasts, and specialized functions for visually impaired audiences.
