,
, ‘Professor Park Dong-hoon of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Pusan National University has been selected as the recipient of the 20th KAIST Cho Jong-hoon Academic Award.’,
,
, ‘In addition to Professor Park Dong-hoon, KAIST selected three scholarship recipients: Vincent Mario Pierre Ugolini, a doctoral student in Aerospace Engineering at KAIST; No Do-won, a master’s student in Mechanical Engineering at Korea University; and Eom Mun-young, a student at the attached high school of the College of Education, Kongju National University. On the morning of the 13th, KAIST presented scholarships to these recipients in the 2nd conference room on the 4th floor of KAIST’s main building.’,
,
, ‘Professor Park Dong-hoon has been conducting experimental and theoretical research on the boundary layer phenomenon that occurs when a hypersonic aircraft flies through the atmosphere. This research can be applied to the development of hypersonic missiles, which are currently of global interest.’,
,
, ‘Professor Park has independently developed a computer program that can analyze the stability of hypersonic flows in this field, contributing to securing the related domestic technological base. He has published numerous papers in top international academic journals in this field over the past 5 years.’,
,
, ‘He has undertaken 22 research and development projects in the field of aerodynamics, achieving significant results through collaboration with the defense industry and academia. He is currently serving as the regional leader for the national project ‘Innovative Talent Development Project for Unmanned Land, Sea, and Air Vehicles’ funded by the Research Foundation, contributing greatly to the training of talents and the enhancement of practical capabilities in the field of aerospace engineering.’,
,
, ‘Vincent Mario Pierre Ugolini, a French national and a third-year doctoral student in Aerospace Engineering at KAIST, is researching a variable thrust liquid rocket that can be applied to a lunar landing module. Ugolini completed his master’s degree at ESTACA (a specialized university in the field of aerospace) in Paris, France, and enrolled in the doctoral program at KAIST with an expected graduation in February next year. Ugolini hopes to find employment in Korea after completing his degree.’,
,
, ‘The KAIST Cho Jong-hoon Academic Award was established in May 2003 to honor the late Dr. Cho Jong-hoon, who died in an accident while conducting research at the KAIST Rocket Laboratory.’,
,
, ‘The award was created with a donation of 478 million won from Dr. Cho’s father, Professor Cho Dong-gil, combining compensation for the bereaved family and personal funds to establish an academic fund at KAIST. Since 2005, outstanding young scientists in the field of aerospace engineering have been discovered and awarded each year.’,
,
, ‘With this fund, KAIST also selects one scholarship recipient each from KAIST, Korea University, and Kongju National University High School every year to provide scholarships. The award winner receives a prize of 25 million won, university students receive 4 million won, and high school students receive 3 million won in scholarships.’,
