It was belatedly revealed that Han Dong-hoon, former emergency response committee chairman of the People Power Party, had a dinner gathering with party officials who participated in the April 10th general election together on the 3rd.
According to the political circle on the 6th, Han, former chairman, had dinner with around 20 people including Kim Hyeong-dong, a member of the emergency response committee, party officials from the office of the chairman, and security team members at a Chinese restaurant in Seoul.
During the 3-hour and 30-minute dinner, Han, former chairman, reportedly led the conversation without drinking alcohol. He exchanged greetings with the party officials, saying “Let’s meet regularly,” and there was no mention of pending issues such as a general assembly.
After taking responsibility for the defeat in the 22nd general election and resigning from the emergency response committee chairmanship on the 11th of last month, Han has been continuing his activities. Han was offered a luncheon meeting with President Moon Jae-in by the presidential chief secretary on the 19th of last month, but he declined citing health reasons.
However, he has been maintaining connections with close aides, having dinner with emergency response committee members he worked with on the 16th of last month. Some speculate that Han is considering running for the upcoming People Power Party general assembly next month, but the mainstream view in the political circle is that the possibility is slim.
Han’s side explained, “Han arranged the dinner gathering out of gratitude towards the office staff and security team who helped him.”
Before resigning the day after the general election, Han approved a special bonus for the office staff who worked hard and left.
